Chinese new year would not be complete without traditional home made, mouth-watering cookies. In this workshop, you will learn all traditional peranakan cookies that will take breath away when you stand in the way of hot trays of oven-fresh home made cookies. So make your CNY special this year by baking these traditional delicacies in your own kitchen.
Course Outline
In this workshop, all participants will have hands-on on the following TEN different Peranakan-style cookies:
Kueh Bahulu - Kuih Bahulu is a mini sponge cake with a sweet crust are baked in special moulds of various shapes. It is perennial favourite among the young and old especially during traditional festive seasons.
Kueh Bangkit - A traditional Nyonya Chinese New Year delicacy. It is a cookie that is hard on the outside but melts away in your mouth. In this workshop you will have a chance to use wooden mould to mould different symbolic animals and flowers for the new year.
Kueh Makmur- A very fragrant and delectable leaf-shaped cookies filled with fragrant peanut chunks.
Kueh Rose/Kueh Goyang – Or sometimes known as Beehive Cookies. These crispies,with a sweet aromatic flavour from fresh coconut cream , are highly addictive and one can easily eat a whole container of it in one seating. kuih rose brass mould would be used in the workshop to make these cookies.
Suji Cookies with Almond -These traditional white and creamy coloured cookies are so fragrant and are yet another favourite nonya cookies for CNY.
Walnut Cookies (Hup Tao Soh) - Lovely crunchy and fragrant walnut biscuit that is loved by the young and old. To the Chinese having walnut cookies would mean happiness of the entire family.
Cashew Nut Cookies – A selenium-rich food is another popular cookies served during CNY. As the nut’s shape resembles gold bar of the ancient china, eating cashew nut cookies would mean more wealth and fortune coming on the way.
Almond Cookies (Han Yan Soh) - These almond cookies have a light, delicate flavor that is not too overpowering but with a melt-in-the-mouth texture. Definitely a thumb up for all.
Peanut Cookies (Fa Shan Pang) - Many people love eating peanut cookies during Cny because peanut in chinese means health, long life, birth of prosperity, continuous growth, multiplication in wealth and good fortune and stability. These little golden morsels of soft peanut crumbs made from freshly ground peanut simply melt in the mouth.
Cornflake Cookies – These buttery, crunchy, and tasty treats are gems among young and old.
