Participants are expected to work in groups in weighing ingredients, washing utensils etc. Each participant will, most of the time, have their own cake to work on and very often are encourage to create their own designed cakes . During the workshops, you may be required to take down notes and tips for baking. Participants may have to bring along an apron. After all the culinary experience, participants would bring home their own masterpieces.

COMMERCIAL AMERICAN CHOCOLATE MUFFINS

Muffins are favourite amongst kids and adults. They are as nourishing as they are good to eat. They are not too difficult to make with the right procedures and they often contain much less sugar and fat. We usually eat them for breakfast but like them with any meal. They work well for snacks and desserts as well. Extras can be frozen and heated in the microwave for hot muffins anytime. If you are thinking of setting up your own food kiosk specializing in sinful chocolate muffins, this is definitely a worthwhile course for you. Do register early.

• Methods in producing commercial muffins that can last for at least 6 months
• Methods in storing them to keep them longer (without any preservatives)

AUTHENTIC NONYA NASI LEMAK

Traditionally a breakfast meal, nasi lemak often served in a banana leaf wrapping, becomes so well-loved that there are many restaurants in Singapore which specialise in serving nasi lemak for late dinners, suppers and brunch! Nasi' means rice in Malay, while 'lemak' means rich. 1. Both parent and kid will be involved in mixing, kneading, rolling, cutting the dough and rolling the filling and send the cookies to bake in oven.

2. How to present the cookies as gifts

Pineapple Tarts - These are dainty open-style pineapple tarts especially when they are so beautifully decorated with little shapes of stars and hearts. Bake these for grandma and grandpa or even auntie and uncles as Chinese New Year gifts and see their compliments your kids will receive

Valentine Chocolate Cookies -Attention children.. steal the hearts of your parents by giving them these home-made freshly baked cookies. They do make wonderful valentine or Chinese New year gifts too. (See attached)

Traditional Taiwanese Pineapple Tarts


Pineapple, feng li 鳳梨 , literary means the phoenix pear. It is also commonly known as 黃梨 : huang li (Mandarin) or wong lai (Cantonese) or ong lai (Hokkien); meaning the yellow pear or if you like, the golden pear. The common name vowels with the term for attracting prosperity: wong or ong to prosperity and lai to attract. In taiwanese dialect (hokkien), feng li is pronounced as 'ong lai'. this harmonised with a hokkien term: ong meaning prosperity, lai meaning come. thus it is believed that pineapple is a lucky fruit that makes one prosperous. similarly, in cantonese culture, the pronunciation of pineapple: wong lai, vowels with attracting prosperity.

Pineapple is also a popular decoration during the chinese new year. Besides the prosperity symbolism, pineapple is also a lucky charm that can brings luck , love, money, and anything that you can think of. It's also good for people taking exams too as it is said to help you pass (by luck)! This is probably the reason why feng li su makes a good gift (and yummy too!).
